Solent Eagles Adult badminton club ‘grew’ in 2008 from what was a social pay and play badminton club called ‘Oaks’. After an influx of adult league players joined the club we decided to enter a men’s team into the local Winchester league. With the club ethos of being a ‘social club with league teams’ rather than the typical ‘competitive with a friendly side’ we have over the past several years grown as a club, now putting in 8 teams into Southampton and Winchester leagues.

Due to the growth of the adult club over recent years we now have two sessions per week with Wednesdays still keeping in its traditional ‘Oaks’ timeslot and open to all members, and a Sunday session used by our league players for match practice.

Solent Eagles junior club has been around in some form since 1992. Previously run by head coaches Sherilee Lewis and Ingrid Smith ‘SJBCC’ was a popular Southampton based coaching club and was influencial on the development of many adult league players who are still playing today.

The club as it is now started in June 2009 when Ingrid and Sher decided to step down as coaches so that they could get their well earned weekends back. The club was then taken over by current head coach Andy Barrow and the club went through some rebranding with a new logo, advertising and a move to feather shuttles.

Over the past several years the club has grown to over 70 junior members between 7 and 17 years-old. The club has juniors of all abilities, from absolute beginners up to and including county, county development and even juniors who take part in adult league competition. We have represented the New Forest in the Hampshire Youth Games as well as taking part in junior tournaments, leagues and have even hosted ‘Badminton Masterclass’ with Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms.
